Marijuana use is normalized: Beth and Don's adult son, Eliot (Owen Teague), works at a pot dispensary, and Beth and her sister smoke pot together in a long scene. Several scenes also involve drinking, including one in which an upset Beth gets drunk alone in a bar.

And so while You Hurt My Feelings centers on Beth's turmoil, it also touches on the lives of others in her orbit, including her sister Sarah (Michaela Watkins), who is dealing with career ennui and propping up her recently-fired husband, and her and Beth's difficult mother Georgia (Jeannie Berlin).

A movie about the virtues of gentle deceit which feels a tad too deceitful in its gentleness. It's worth seeing for the excellent cast and witty script, but it would have benefited from a bit less saccharine assurance, and a bit more honest bile. Fresh score. The acting is solid in this movie, and the dialog is witty.
