The Masked Singer Unveils Oscar-Nominated Actress and '90s Rapper in Double Elimination
The Masked Singer's latest episode left viewers in awe with a double reveal that had jaws dropping. The singing competition's Jan. 20 episode saw two stars bid farewell, leaving fans buzzing with excitement as they tried to decipher the identities behind the elaborate costumes.
First to go was Handyman, who, in his clue video, hinted at his distinctive nature, saying, 'I’ve been known to stand out.' He then revealed a 'painful accident' that 'changed my voice overnight,' but he didn't let it stop him. Handyman's voice, he noted, 'got people’s attention and suddenly you can hear me everywhere. The radio, movies—even kids' shows.'
The judges, with a bear wearing an 'I Love the 90s' shirt and a microphone made of ice, were led to believe they were dealing with a rapper. The candy wrappers on stage further confirmed this, leading to the revelation that the celeb was indeed a rapper. Jenny McCarthy was the first to guess correctly, identifying Chuck D from Public Enemy. Ken Jeong, recalling Handyman's Ace of Spades clue, narrowed it down to Mr. T. Rita Ora, intrigued by the frozen microphone, wondered if it could be Ice-T. But it was Robin Thicke who correctly identified 'Funky Cold Media' rapper Tone Loc, exclaiming, 'I know that voice.'
Host Nick Cannon celebrated Tone Loc's participation, noting his hit 'Wild Thing.' The Grammy-nominated rapper expressed delight, especially since he could now tell his children he had participated in the competition.
Tone Loc shared, 'My kids just dared me big time to come up on here. They’re like, 'Dad, you’re not gonna do that.' But I had a good time.' He added, 'I’m 59 years old and I’m still having fun.'
The second star to be unmasked was Scarab, an Oscar-nominated actress. Her clue segment featured a small rocket ship, hinting at her success in Hollywood. Scarab revealed her father's prediction, saying, 'He told me I was going to be a huge star, and that I’d be nominated for an Oscar.'
Scarab's father's predictions came true, and she performed an emotional rendition of Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun.' Her final clue, a roll of cookie dough, symbolized 'a lot of baking under pressure to get where I am.'
The judges, shocked by her departure, made their guesses. Robin switched from Sheryl Lee Ralph to Regina King, Jenny stuck with Angela Bassett, Ken noted the green and pink in her costume, and Rita correctly identified Empire actress Taraji P. Henson, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2009 for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Nick Cannon welcomed Taraji P. Henson, praising her as the 'most decorated celebrity' on the show. He humorously asked, 'Who voted me off, though?' Despite the departure, Taraji P. Henson enjoyed the experience, stating, 'I had a lot of confidence. It’s a lot of things you can do hiding behind a mask.' She performed Adele's 'Set Fire to the Rain' to conclude the show.
