Great article regarding DME ordering and the discharge process. It's staggering how long it can take to manually to supply the mandatory documentation in order to get DME ordered. Care is shifting to the home as we know, these products are critical for a successful home health strategy, it's the foundation. With VBC providers are becoming more and more accountable for outcomes and typical maular ordering processes create a black hole of questions on quality, delivery time, as well as patient education.

Read my Q&A with Dr. William Shrank, former CMO at Humana. Case Managers face significant challenges with care transitions at home, especially medical equipment and supplies coordination:- Member impact: 37% of Medicare members with chronic conditions need DME, affecting CAHPS and STAR responses.- Manual workflows: 40 pages and 90 minutes of processing per order.- Stakeholder coordination: Up to 16 calls between prescribers and suppliers for complex orders.- Complex member needs: 45% of patients experience delivery delays.- Limited visibility: 68% of providers can't effectively monitor order status.During our upcoming webinar, Dr. Shrank will discuss technologies and strategies to enhance member satisfaction, improve care transitions at home, and boost CAHPS/Star scores. DME doesn't have to be a "black hole" in healthcare.#homehealth #caretransitions #alternativesitesofcare #DME #Starrating #HEDIS #Caremanagement #CAHPS

There is a lot of competition in EMS, primarily the private sector. There is a lot of competition in healthcare as a whole. Competition is healthy for promoting better business practices to edge out the competition. I think the problem is the core mission is lost at times, providing excellent patient care. Shuffling through patients with time limits or goals instead of taking the time to truly hear the patient or fully treat them. Rushing scene times to get back in service for example is not excellent care. Taking the extra mile to help the elderly patient in and out of the bathroom is excellent patient care. While I agree that getting the unit available for the next critical call is important, treating a person as a number is not excellent patient care. All I’m trying to say is focus on the now, the patient in front of you. Going the extra step for your patient is the best patient care and marketing you can do… The company will survive. #ems #healthcare #paramedic #emt #patientcare

Navigating the Maze: How to Choose the Best HMO for You#healthcare #healthandwellness #healthawareness #IHMS #HMOHealth Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) offer a structured approach to healthcare, often with lower upfront costs. But with so many plans available, selecting the right one can feel overwhelming. Don't worry, this guide will give you the knowledge to navigate the maze and find the HMO that fits your needs.Know Yourself:Needs Assessment: Analyze your current and anticipated healthcare needs. Do you have regular appointments? Pre-existing conditions? Consider family members if they're included in the plan.Doctor-Patient Relationship: Do you prefer a personal touch or value efficiency? HMOs typically emphasize a primary care physician (PCP) who manages your care and coordinates referrals.Network Exploration:Provider Availability: This is crucial! Review the HMO's network of doctors, hospitals, and specialists. Ensure it covers your preferred providers and locations. Ask if they accept referrals to out-of-network specialists if needed.Quality Matters: Research the network's reputation for quality care. Online reviews, rating websites, and accreditation can be helpful guides.Financial Fitness:Premium Comparison: Don't just chase the lowest premium. Analyze co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket limits. A low premium might mean higher out-of-pocket costs when you need care.Coverage Details: Scrutinize the plan's coverage specifics. Does it cover your anticipated needs, including preventive care, prescription drugs, and specific treatments? Understand any exclusions or limitations.Beyond the Basics:Customer Service: Check the HMO's reputation for responsiveness and helpfulness. Online reviews and complaints can be telling.Digital Tools: Many HMOs offer online portals and apps for appointment booking, claims management, and accessing medical records. Please take a look at how important these features are to you.Bonus Tips:Talk to your doctor for recommendations, especially if you have specific healthcare needs. Please attend HMO presentations or webinars if you're interested.Don't hesitate to ask questions – the more informed you are, the better your choice.Remember, choosing the right HMO is an investment in your health and well-being. Take your time, compare options, and prioritize your needs for a plan that delivers optimal care and peace of mind.

They're a lifeline for underserved communities, bringing healthcare to pharmacy deserts. But the benefits extend beyond the patients. Onsite pharmacies mean seamless communication among healthcare providers, enhancing medication management and patient care. Plus, the revenue generated is reinvested into improving patient care services.Question is, how can we further incorporate pharmacies into our healthcare systems to boost patient care and outcomes?
