Steve McQueen's Granddaughter Sues for $68M Jackson Pollock Painting (2025)

A $68 million legal battle has erupted over a lost Jackson Pollock painting, with a surprising twist. Steve McQueen's granddaughter, Molly McQueen, is taking legal action, claiming her grandfather was cheated in a deal involving a rare Pollock masterpiece.

At 38 years old, Molly is seeking justice for what she believes was an unfair trade. According to her, her grandfather, the legendary actor Steve McQueen, exchanged a valuable Jackson Pollock painting for a rare motorcycle and a Los Angeles property, but never received what was promised.

The deal, Molly claims, was made with Rudolph and Pamela Borchert, and involved a Pollock painting that has been a cherished part of the Borchert family's home for decades. Molly asserts that her grandfather fulfilled his end of the bargain, but the Borcherts failed to deliver on their side.

Here's where it gets controversial: Molly alleges that 'one of the Borcherts crashed the motorcycle and the property never changed title.' This has led her to sue Brent Borchert, the son of Rudolph and Pamela, for possession of the painting.

Brent Borchert, in an interview with the Mirror, recalls a vague conversation with his mother about the Pollock painting and a possible deal involving a motorcycle and a house. He also remembers his parents' friendship with McQueen, a renowned motorcycle enthusiast.

According to the lawsuit, McQueen made a 'demand for the return of the Pollock painting within a reasonable time' when the deal fell through. Brent Borchert confirms that his father, Rudolph, was also a bike lover and that the motorcycle in question was a rare and desirable model. Unfortunately, Rudolph's motorcycle lifestyle came to an abrupt end after a horrific accident.

Now, Brent Borchert says he is open to hearing out Molly McQueen's claims. He states, 'If they can provide reasonable evidence and show me something that convinces me something unfair happened, I'm willing to come to an agreement. But if they can't, then I won't.'

Jackson Pollock, as described by Artnet, is 'one of art history's best-known painters.' He is renowned for his role in Abstract Expressionism and his distinctive splatter technique. The highest price ever paid for a Pollock painting at auction was a staggering $61.1 million, achieved at Sotheby's New York in 2021.

This legal battle raises questions about the value of art, the integrity of deals, and the legacy of iconic figures like Steve McQueen and Jackson Pollock. What do you think? Is Molly McQueen's lawsuit justified, or is this a case of a family dispute blown out of proportion? Share your thoughts in the comments!
