St Helens Council leader Anthony Burns has sparked debate by defending the controversial Dream sculpture, which some claim is an 'embarrassment' due to its hidden location. The Dream sculpture, featuring a young girl's head overlooking the M62, stands on the site of the former Sutton Manor Colliery. However, a group of ex-miners who played a pivotal role in bringing the sculpture to the region have expressed disappointment, claiming it can no longer be seen from the motorway due to trees obstructing the view.
Burns, however, disagrees, stating that the artist Jaume Plensa's vision was always to create a 'hidden' piece that would reveal itself as viewers approached. He also addressed concerns about the sculpture's visibility, suggesting that the forest's natural growth was part of its artistic appeal.
