A shocking incident in Melbourne has left the community reeling after a man was brutally attacked with a machete in what police are calling a 'brazen' assault. This event, captured on camera, has led to the arrest of two teenagers, a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old, as investigations continue.
On Wednesday evening, around 7:10 PM, a man and a woman were walking along Blacksmiths Way in Belgrave when they were confronted by a group of males. CCTV footage revealed the horrifying moment when one of the individuals wielded a machete, striking the man.
Sabrina, an employee at the nearby Tacos 'N' Tequilas, described the event as incredibly swift. Initially mistaking the weapon for a stick, she quickly realized the severity of the situation when she saw the victim's injury. The man sustained a 'massive gouge' on his forearm.
Authorities believe the group fled the scene in a white BMW sedan. Further investigation revealed that this same vehicle was allegedly used to steal petrol from a service station on the Western Freeway in Ballan earlier that day. The victim, a 27-year-old from Ferntree Gully, was promptly taken to the hospital. Thankfully, his injuries are not life-threatening. The two teenagers are currently in custody as detectives work to identify a third suspect.
But here's where it gets controversial... Casey MP Aaron Violi expressed his dismay, calling the attack 'heartbreaking.' He also stated that, sadly, the incident wasn't surprising, highlighting the increasing frequency of such brazen attacks. He emphasized the emotional impact on the community, noting the rising costs of insurance and the growing sense of unease among Victorians.
