New Star Trek Movie Incoming! Directors of Dungeons & Dragons Take the Helm! (2025)

Get ready for an exciting new chapter in the beloved 'Star Trek' universe! The captains of this voyage are none other than Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, a dynamic duo known for infusing their films with adventure and heart. These talented filmmakers, who brought us the hilarious 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' and crafted the beloved 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' screenplay, are now officially at the helm of the next 'Star Trek' film, as reported by Variety.

But here's where it gets controversial... This new movie won't be a direct continuation of the JJ Abrams reboot films, which means we won't be seeing Chris Pine and the gang return. It's a fresh start, and an entirely new direction for the franchise.

The plot is being kept under wraps, tighter than the security at Starfleet Academy, but Paramount is aiming for a bold new beginning on the big screen. And this is the part most people miss: the new film will stand alone, completely disconnected from any previous movies, TV shows, or other 'Star Trek' projects that were once in the works.

The road to this point has been a rocky one. Since 'Star Trek Beyond' in 2016, there have been several attempts to launch a new film, each starting with great enthusiasm but ending abruptly. At one point, Chris Hemsworth was almost set to reprise his role as Captain Kirk's father, despite his character's demise in the 2009 movie. And Quentin Tarantino almost directed a wild, gangster-themed 'Star Trek' set in a 1930s-inspired world, a concept that thrilled fans but ultimately didn't materialize.

More recently, Noah Hawley and Matt Shakman were deep into development, with sets even being constructed. But both projects were shelved, with Hawley moving to 'Alien: Earth' for FX and Shakman joining Marvel's 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps'.

Now, Goldstein and Daley are taking on the challenge of reviving this iconic franchise. Known for their sharp wit and clever storytelling, they've brought us films like 'Game Night', the 'Vacation' reboot, 'Horrible Bosses', and 'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2'.

So, what do you think? Are you excited for this new 'Star Trek' adventure? Do you think Goldstein and Daley will deliver a fresh and exciting take on the franchise? Let's discuss in the comments!
