Regions of the World in FF7
The World Map is finally coming back to FF7 Rebirth and this opens endless possibilities for FF7 players! Final Fantasy has been spearheading changes and redefining RPG since they first released their series. Players love Final Fantasy for its gripping story, beautiful soundtrack, and immersive combat. For Final Fantasy 7, the director Naoki Hamaguchifinally confirmed that the World Map is indeed coming back to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Gold Saucer
An expansive world awaits Final Fantasy 7 players and some of the regions thatthe developers have announced are the Gold Saucer and the Corel Prison. These two images show a contrast between two regions where the Gold Saucer is a brightly-lit paradise that looks like an amusement park on a grand scale, while the Corel Prison serves as a grim contrast where the more dangerous dwellers are found.
Corel Prison
So far, these are only 2 of the regions that have been revealed by FF7 Rebirth developers. With the World Map returning and the game featuring Midgar as an open world, we are excited to see how massive the game will turn out to be. We are expecting major content improvement, fluid combat, and interactive conversations with key characters. There is little information yet about how big the World Map is going to be, but with a confirmed file size of 150GB for the full game, we can expect Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to be massive.
Play your Way withCombat Style in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
There are 2 ways that players can play FF7 Rebirth. The game features a combat style selection offering Active and Classic. Active mode offers total control over every move, allowing you to execute advanced strategies while Classic mode automates characters’ basic actions, giving you time to focus on specific command selections.
Classic Mode in FF7 Rebirth is when actions are performed automatically. This is advisable for those who want to focus on executing commands. Active is recommended for those who want full control on their character's actions.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Playable Characters
There are a total of 7 Playable Characters that players can experience in FF7 Rebirth. Each one possesses a different weapon and set of specialties. Characters in FF7 Rebirth also come from a rich background that adds flavor to the story taking place on the Planet.
The 4 previously playable characters in FF7 Remake will also be returning in the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth like Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, and Barrett Wallace, including Yuffie Kisaragi who made her debut in the DLC story, Episode INTERmission. The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be seeing additional playable characters like Red XIII,and Cait Sith.
Synergy Abilities is Coming toFinal Fantasy VII Rebirth
Synergy Abilities inFF7 rebirth are powerful attacks in which two characters will work together in an attempt to turn the tides of the battle in their favor! The more you use two characters together, the more abilities you will unlock. This will be measured in the form of a party level, which describes how close your team is and will deepen the affinity between party members. This will also be shown in the form of a Synergy Gauge that will allow you to unleash powerful Synergy Attacks.
Synergy Abilities may also be strongly tied to the friendship that you have with the characters surrounding Cloud Strife. Information on Synergy Ability is still scarce as of posting but we can expect great combos that players can work on to deliver powerful blows to enemies. Currently, the developers have teased 2 Synergy Abilities that feature Cloud and Aerith and Tifa and Cait Sith. We're sure that there's more to come and we will find out more about this once FF7 Rebirth finally releases on February 29, 2024.
More CharactersRevealedin FF7 Rebirth
The developers have confirmed that there will be new names and faces joining Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Some of these characters have been shared in the Square Enix website like Vincent Valentine, Cid Highwind, Dyne, Doctor Sheiran, and others. The plot continues to thicken as we get more characters for Rebirth. These characters also have their own background, preferred weapons, and combat styles. One character even has a hiddenconnection to Sephiroth.
Vincent Valentine is the guy in a red headwrap and cape. A man full of mystery and boasts the genes of a monster. Very little information is known about this self-proclaimed guard who hibernates in a coffin deep below Shinra Manor. Cid Highwind (2nd image) is known for his reputable skills as a rogue pilot and his shuttle service out of various abandoned airstrips. Players will now get to meet the owner of Gold Saucer, the guy known as Dio (3rd image)! He is often found participating in his park's parades, flexing his muscles before throngs of screaming guests.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Get to Know the Characters
Cloud Strife
An ex-SOLDIER: first class, Cloud came to Midgar to start a new chapter of his life as a mercenary. At the invitation of his childhood friend, Tifa, he accepts a job with Avalanche. Together, they confront Shinra, ultimately leaving Midgar behind in pursuit of Sephiroth and the truth ─ a quest that will lead them to defy destiny itself.
He specializes in using Swords and fights by switching between modes of mobility and offense. A single swipe of his huge sword can knock several foes off their feet at once. Some of his abilities also allow him to take the fight to the air.
Barret Wallace
The leader of an independent Avalanche cell, Barret spearheads an operation to take down Shinra's mako reactors. He pays a hefty price for this, however, when the company retaliates, and his comrades die in the crossfire. Armed with the memories of his lost friends and the newfound knowledge of Sephiroth's plans, he departs Midgar in the hope of saving the planet and safeguarding a future for his daughter Marlene.
What he lacks in speed, he makes up for in both sturdiness and strength, converting his anger toward Shinra into raw firepower. Using his Gunarm, he employs a variety of ranged attacks, from rapid-fire salvos to powerful explosions, which allow him to strike foes high in the air or across the battlefield.
Tifa Lockhart
Though a loyal member of Avalanche─an underground organization that opposes Shinra─Tifa nevertheless questions the group's extremist tactics, struggling to reconcile her cause with her conscience. This internal conflict reaches a fever pitch when her group's actions effectively lead to the fall of the Sector 7 plate. Racked with guilt, she leaves Midgar in search of a new path to tread.
She strings together swift combos while utilizing a variety of martial arts techniques. Her ATB fills quickly, allowing for the use of multiple abilities in rapid succession. She also boasts several skills that deal more damage to airborne or staggered foes.
Aerith Gainsborough
A flower seller who lives in the Sector 5 undercity and the last remaining descendant of the Cetra, a people known for communing with the planet. Shinra takes her prisoner in their efforts to reach the Cetra's foretold "promised land," but Cloud and company come to her rescue. She escapes Midgar and embarks on a journey into the outside world of which she has long dreamed.
Utilizing the power of magic, she casts spells from a safe distance and launches attacks that home in on her foes with the use of a Staff. She can also conjure beneficial wards and warp between them, as well as restore the party's HP with her limit break.
Red XIII
Red XIII is a beast with a flaming tail, crimson fur, deadly claws, and the ability to speak. Cloud and company help him escape Professor Hojo's clutches, and he decides to join them on their journey. His species is known for their long life spans, and he is no exception. As this Cosmo Canyon native is the eldest member of the party, he offers its members words of wisdom from time to time.
He sets upon foes with an unrelenting assault, laying into them with a beastly ferocity. Guarding against incoming attacks will feed his Vengeance gauge. Once it is full, he can unleash his inner beast, but sufficient skill is required to maximize its potential.
Yuffie Kisaragi
A member of Wutai's elite corps of ninja operatives, Yuffie infiltrates Midgar on a mission to steal the "ultimate materia" from Shinra. Her plan ends in disaster, as she fails to claim the materia and loses her partner Sonon in the struggle. Just as working alone begins to take its toll on her, however, Cloud’s group comes into the picture.
Using her throwing star and ninja skills, she excels at both long- and close-range combat. Elemental ninjutsu allows her to exploit enemies' weaknesses without relying on spells. She also keeps opponents on their toes with a variety of aerial attacks and tricky techniques.
Cait Sith
A wisecracking, feline-shaped robot often seen poised atop his big moogle pal. One of the Gold Saucer's most popular mascots, he is well loved for his fortune telling─a service he also offers to Cloud and friends. His adorable appearance also belies access to a surprising amount of insider intel on Shinra.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Combat and Gameplay Mechanics
Combat Mechanics of FF7 Rebirth
The developers of FF7 Rebirth have confirmed very little about what mechanics the game will be featuring in its upcoming release in February 2024. However, from what we can gather, the previous FF7 Remake featured a hybrid of the ATB (Active Time Battle) system, a combat mode that allows players to focus on melee combat while adding the option of freely switching characters at any point in gameplay.
Aside from the close-ranged combat, players can expect to take advantage of multiple types of Materiathat can be used tocast a variety ofSpells, conjure powerfulSummons, grant new commands/Abilities, and further boost the Stats by providing buffs and different effects. When it comes to Combat Mechanics of FF7 Rebirth, many of its aspects remain a mystery but we are looking forward to changes that are coming after Teruki Endo, the Battle Director announced on X (previously Twitter) that the battle system will feature new comrades will be joining players in battle and even cooperate with other party members. This led some fans to believe that it would feature the possibility of team tag or doing attacks in groups that are commonly found in other JRPGs.
From what we know so far, 10 characters will be introduced in the FF7 Rebirth, and if it's true that players will get the group attacks, it will be interesting to see how the developers have implemented this in the Final Fantasy 7 world.
ATB Gauge in FF7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 7 Remake introduced two bars of ATB gauges: one that can be filled and used to cast a spell, use an ability, an item, or summon a monster. This bar fills steadily on its own which can be determined by the Movement Speed of the used character but will fill faster as you deal damage to enemies with normal attacks, deflect damages with guard, or use unique techniques. The ATB Gauge will likely be retained in FF7 Rebirth while implementing more fluid combat. This means that abilities will feel more natural in these scenarios.
We are hoping to see more improvements in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the possibility of more challenging boss fights that players will take on. With the introduction of Synergy Attacks in FF7 rebirth, the difficulty of combat will likely be ramped up and boss fights will be more armed than ever.
Forge Relationships and Find Romance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Cloud Strife has always been surrounded by his friends and even foes in Final Fantasy 7. This time, in FF7 Rebirth, his actions and dialogue choices will now affect his relationships with them. Players can now engage other characters in a conversation that can lead to a blossoming friendship. With a strong enough bond, this may reap some benefits which remind players to be wary of their decisions, especially when it comes to their favorite characters.
The Romance Mechanics of FF7 Remakeremains largely unknown but it may be based on the FF7 Remake Date Event where Cloud Strife can go out on a date with specific characters. The character that will appear in the said event will depend on the side quests and choices that you have made so far. FF7 Rebirth romance will likely stray from this mechanic given the dialogue choices that have been confirmed by the developers. Romance in FF7 Rebirth screenshots can be found below and it appears the scenario is similar to a certain level where fireworks can be seen at the background while Cloud Strife is talking to different characters.
Difficulty Options in FF7Rebirth
Players will get 3 levels in which they can play FF7 Rebirth. Easy difficulty allows you to focus on the story, while Normal provides a reasonable challenge. There's a newly added level called Dynamic difficulty, where enemies grow stronger as your characters do—perfect for players who crave constant challenge.
In the Dynamic difficulty, players can expect that enemies will scale according to their current level. We can assume that this will mean more challenge and you will not be one-shotting all kinds of enemies across your travels. We find that this is a nice option for those who want to challenge Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's combat system and experiment with all kinds of styles.
Which Mode Should You Play in FF7 Rebirth?
The difficulty level will largely depend on your appetite for challenge. Normal is the standard mode for players who want to enjoy both battles and the story, while Easy Mode will let you focus on the story and the battles will not be much of a challenge. Don't be afraid to try out difficulties and find the one that matches your skill and make sure to have fun along the way!
Dynamic Mode is recommended for those who seek thrill and want extra challenge in their game. If you're new to the genre, we suggest sticking with either Easy or Normal so you don't get frustrated trying to finish the game.
What Combat Changes Are Coming to FF7 Rebirth?
Synergy Abilities
Synergy Abilities are coming to FF7 rebirth. These are powerful attacks in which two characters will work together in an attempt to turn the tides of the battle in their favor! The more you use two characters together, the more abilities you will unlock. This will be measured in the form of a party level, which describes how close your team is and will deepen the affinity between party members. This will also be shown in the form of a Synergy Gauge that will allow you to unleash powerful Synergy Attacks. Below, you will find screenshots of Synergy Attacks in FF7 Rebirth:
Cloud and Aerith: Firework Blade
In this synergy attack, Cloud teams up with Aerith to unleash a powerful ranged attack.
Tifa Lockhart and Cait Sith: Moogle Dunk Shot
The nimble and strong Tifa swings Caith Sith's moogle around and throws it at an enemy.
New Summons
Setting summoning materia grants players access to the power of the gods. These powerful summons will follow your lead and fight enemies as you command them and even control them to use special abilities. Before leaving the battlefield, these strong summonses will unleash one final attack that can cause immense damage to foes. Three new summonses will be joining the fight in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Titan, Bahamut Arisen, and Phoenix are the 3 summons that will be available in FF7 Rebirth. Each of these summonses has their distinct appearance and their combat style. The Titan is great at dealing powerful melee strikes and can hurl boulders that can deal area-of-effect damage to foes. The Bahamut Arisen is a massive dragon with resplendent red scales, its distinct combat style features lightning-quick speed that can deal massive damage with its sharp claws. Finally, the Phoenix is a powerful bird of exquisite beauty and fiery wings. A balanced summon that can deal powerful attacks with its fiery wings but also heals the party's wounds.
The Gold Saucer Returns to FF7 Rebirth
In the original game, players can choose who Cloud will go on a date with at the event. This feature will be returning in the upcoming FF7 Rebirth and screenshots have been shared by the developers. Previously, the Gold Saucer date was largely dependent on the quests that you have completed, but for now, there is little info about how Romance and dating work in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Customize your Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Players will come across Chocobo ranches, where Chocoboutiques can be found. These are stalls wherein players can freely customize and recolortheir bird'sequipment from head to talon. Gear will impact its performance in chocobo races, so find an ensemble that suits your style and will amp up your performance!
Small details like customization bring the fun to FF7 Rebirth. It's exciting to think about all the customizations that players can do when FF7 Rebirth releases on February 29, 2024.
