The recent passing of Ghanaian music icon Daddy Lumba has sparked a family feud, and the head of the family, Abusuapayin Kofi Owusu, has finally spoken out to shed light on the controversies surrounding the funeral.
A Tale of Two Widows and a Legacy
The tension began when Daddy Lumba's first wife, Akosua Serwaa, took legal action against the funeral proceedings. She sought sole permission to perform widowhood rites, among other requests, which led to a series of controversies.
But here's where it gets controversial: the late musician's elder sister, Ernestina Fosu, invoked a traditional custom, the Asantehene's Ntam Kese, against the abusuapayin, adding fuel to the fire.
In a recent interview on UTV's United Showbiz, Abusuapayin Kofi Owusu, also known as Tupac, revealed the root cause of these tensions. He pointed the finger at individuals close to Akosua Serwaa, claiming they had influenced her with misguided advice.
According to Kofi Owusu, "Akosua Serwaa would have listened to us if she were in the country. But because she isn't here, people are giving her the wrong information." He further added that Priscilla (Odo Broni), the other widow, is someone who values advice, but two individuals, Papa Shee and Giga, are corrupting their minds.
Money Matters and Misconceptions
Addressing the controversy surrounding the funds generated during the one-week observance, Kofi Owusu clarified that allegations of mismanaging contributions are false. He stated, "They say I've been squashing the money, but that's a lie. The floral contract they accuse me of is false. I had no knowledge of it, and even Kwadwo Fosu's children signed a contract for GH¢50,000. All the money is safely in the bank, untouched."
Furthermore, he addressed reports claiming he spent GH¢28,000 on hotel lodging during the one-week celebration. Kofi Owusu clarified, "I stayed at the hotel for one month and four days, not just a few days. I couldn't stay at Lumba's house because his wives were there. I wouldn't use my own money for this; I was there for the funeral."
