Cody Laweryson Returns to Minnesota Twins: Maine Native's Journey Back to the MLB (2026)

A Maine-born pitcher is back in the mix with the Minnesota Twins.

Cody Laweryson, a Valley High graduate, agreed on Friday to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training with the Twins, according to multiple reports.

The 27-year-old right-handed reliever made his major league debut for Minnesota on September 13 and appeared in five games, finishing with a 0-1 record and a 1.17 ERA over 7 2/3 innings. He struck out seven batters and did not issue a walk.

Laweryson was selected by the Twins in the 14th round of the 2019 draft. During his time at the University of Maine, he appeared in 55 games across three seasons, including 19 as a starter.

He was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Angels on November 6 but was released by the Angels earlier this month.

The first report of the news came from Bobby Nightengale of the Minnesota Star Tribune. (https://www.startribune.com/live-blog-minnesota-twins-spring-training-buxton-ryan-zoll-shelton-fort-myers/601578136)
